Weather Alert – Lacey Township Police Department – Major Coastal Storm Late Thursday into Saturday – Tonight, Thursday, March 1, 2018 through Saturday, March 3, 2018

*** The National Weather Service has issued the below Major Coastal Storm Warning ***
“The National Weather Service has issued a major coastal storm warning. A major nor’easter will affect the region tonight through Saturday. Precipitation will be moving into the area from the southwest late today, falling heavy at times through Friday. Rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches are expected. Winds will become northwest and increase rapidly Friday morning with speeds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts 50 to 60 mph through Friday evening, before diminishing Friday night and Saturday. Downed trees and power lines are expected, especially given the saturated ground. Minor to locally moderate coastal flooding is expected on the New Jersey coast during high tide Friday, with moderate to locally major flooding possible on the NJ/DE Atlantic coast and the coast of the Delaware Bay Saturday.”
Lacey Township residents living in the low-lying affected areas may voluntarily park their vehicles in Gille Park, located at 102 Manchester Avenue in Forked River. All affected residents that wish to park their vehicles in Gille Park should park in the middle parking lot, adjacent to the playground and basketball court. Please ensure that your vehicle is locked.
Residents are asked to check on their neighbors who may be vulnerable and advise the police department if any concerns arise. – Chief Michael C. DiBella
